Tips for a Successful Cooking Class

I am so excited you are joining me for a virtual cooking class. I have compiled some helpful suggestions to make it go as smoothly as possible for you. As always, you can email me with questions. I am looking forward to cooking with you!

  1. Read the Recipes in Full
It is helpful to read the recipes before class so you know how to properly chop items, quantities of items, etc. especially if you do not attend the prep class.
  2. Measure Out Your Ingredients
Called “mise en place” in the culinary world. This is French for have all your ingredients measured and ready to use. If you need one cup of something, have it in a measuring cup or in a dish already measured out and ready to be added to your dish. Use of ramekins, small bowls, etc is especially helpful.
  3. Wash, Peel, Chop, Etc All Fresh Ingredients
This is especially important if you are not attending the prep class before the cooking class. Have all your ingredients ready to be added to the dish so you do not have to spend time chopping or washing during the class.
  4. Group Ingredients Together
Once you have your mise en place, put ingredients for each dish near each other so you know what to use for each dish. I like to have my pots on the stove and the ingredients for each pot on that side of the stove.
